Post-Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh is as old and as young as the City Beautiful. Its growth and expansion have kept pace with the growth and expansion of the city.
The college was established on May 26, 1953, in the building now housing the Mountview Hotel. Later it shifted to the premises of Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 23. It moved finally to its present building in Sector 11 on October 13, 1960. Since its inception, it has witnessed a steady growth in its infrastructure and enrolment.
The College Library is to sustain a physically and virtually appealing environment that promotes learning, teaching and research. It fosters lifelong intellectual growth and self-fulfillment by providing all users with versatile accessibility to needed information resources. It also stimulates to promote individual sharing of ideas and love of reading and social enlightenment, enrichment throughout the knowledge society. It also supports excellence and innovation in education and research
The library works on Libsys software. The library is also fully air-conditioned and has 16 CCTV’s keeping a close watch on the users so as to minimize the losses and mutilation of reading material. Our college library is an institution within the institution. The young minds are exposed to ever-expanding fields of knowledge which lies dormant in books and journals. An endeavour is to make them library minded. Ours is functional, well equipped and fully computerized library having a proud collection of more than 1 Lakh books on its open shelves and in addition to this collection, the library also has e -resources ( 6000+ e -journals and 30,00,000 + e -Books subscribed through INFLIBNET and other online free databases. About 650 students and staff visit the library daily to read books, magazines, newspapers and to do their assignments.

Sh Pawan Kumar Bansal who was Minister of State for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs in the First Manmohan Singh Cabinet visited the library on 26.0.2012.
BRAILLE CORNER
The library has a BRAILLE CORNER, and it became the First College to start this facility in 2007. It has two Perkins Brailler, one computer with Braille software (JAWS), one PLEX talk PTR 2 Professional Daisy recording system and one PLEX talk PTN 2Daisy CD Player. Libraries help these students by providing them readers who read books for them to make notes on Braillers. Many students opt to do honorary service to these students.

Highlight: Deepshikha (Handwritten) by Mahadevi Verma
दीपशिखा महादेवी वर्मा का पाँचवाँ कविता-संग्रह है। इसका प्रकाशन 1942 में हुआ। यह किताबिस्तान, इलाहाबाद द्वारा प्रकाशित किया गया। इसमें कुल 51 हस्तलिखित कविताएँ हैं। प्रत्येक गीत अनूठा एवम् चित्रात्मक है। 'मीरा कुटीर' और हिमालय की गोद में रहते हुए उन्होंने
अपने सबसे महत्त्वपूर्ण कविता संग्रह ' दीपशिखा ' (1940 ) की रचना की।इस संग्रह के गीतों का मुख्य प्रतिपाद्य स्वयं मिटकर दूसरे को सुखी बनाना है। इस संग्रह की भूमिका में वे स्वयं कहती हैँ-
"दीप-शिखा में मेरी कुछ ऐसी रचनाएँ संग्रहित हैं जिन्हें मैंने रंगरेखा की धुंधली पृष्ठभूमि देने का प्रयास किया है। सभी रचनाओं को ऐसी पीठिका देना न सम्भव होता है और न रुचिकर, अतः रचनाक्रम की दृष्टि से यह चित्रगीत बहुत बिखरे हुए ही रहेंगे। और मेरे गीत अध्यात्म के अमूर्त आकाश के नीचे लोक-गीतों की धरती पर पले हैं।"

The library has a Heritage corner with the furniture designed by Le Corbusier. The gallery was established with the aim of conserving Le Corbusier's heritage furniture. The corner has three office chairs, an executive desk, two easy chairs and two stools. A special area has been reserved in the library to preserve the furniture.
